We’re playing our favourite show of the year again this month — a free (or is it pay-what-you-wish? I don’t remember) matinee as part of the Fringe Festival. It’s at 2:00pm on Sunday June 22 at Parc des Ameriques, at the corner of St Laurent and Rachel, where the Fringe is headquartered. There’s beer on tap on-site, and kids are welcome.

Now that we’re finished our May run of shows, Puff and the Pillpoppers are going to take a couple of weeks to finally develop some new material that we’ve been wanting to work on, and to lay down some more tracks towards our next album.
Stay tuned!
Shows in May!

We ended April with our Emergenza show at Club Soda, but May is looking busier. Fannie has started her maternity leave, and we’re very pleased to have Michelle Bordeleau joining us on the organ for these upcoming dates:
Tonight, May 2, we’re at 3 Minots, 3812 St Laurent, just north of Roy. We’re playing with After the Weather and David Martel. We’re on early, at around 10:00. Cover is … probably pay what you want. Much lower than Emergenza at any rate!
Saturday, May 10 we’re playing at Pub St Ciboire, 1693 St Denis, between Ontario and de Maisonneuve. We’re playing with The Furlongs. Come on out and wish Fern a happy birthday!
Tuesday, May 20 we’re playing at Bar St Laurent 2, at the corner of St Viateur, with After the Weather. Quarts of beer!

Puff & the Pillpoppers
Set the World to Flames (Indie Martian)
The band name might suggest shits ’n’ giggles, but there’s little doubt that this Montreal quintet is deadly serious about their soul-punk dirges and dense, defiant rock nocturnes. “June” and “Precious Thing” stagger under the weight of the world while “Pillpoppers”—a theme song?—charges into it headfirst. Singer, guitarist and songwriter Simon Bergeron has assembled a capable crew, with a fierce rhythm section boosting up his trade-offs with singer Caroline Daigneault, who hits it out of the park a few times here. The MVP, though, is Fannie Pelchat D’Ascola, whose churning Hammond organ is a tidal wave carrying the whole thing to kingdom come. 7.5/10 (Rupert Bottenberg) At Bar St-Laurent 2 on Wed., Feb. 27, 7 p.m., free

We’re putting on a full two-set show with all the trimmings at the end of February … we’ll be recording the show, we’ll be videotaping it, it’s a full production like we haven’t been able to do for some time. Best of all, it’s FREE! Yes, it’s a weeknight, but it’s also EARLY, so we can all still be fresh for work the next day.
Some of you came to our cd launch a few months ago at O Patros Vys … we’re re-launching the cd to the media, with experienced publicists taking the lead to get it into the hands of the people in the media who need to hear it. At the same time, we’re also taking the opportunity to put on a show that’s a mix of old and new material, for our loyal fans and also for some new listeners who might be interested.
The show’s at Bar St Laurent 2, at the corner of St Laurent and St Viateur … some of you have seen us play there before, but for those of you around Montreal that haven’t seen us play yet — this will be a GREAT opportunity.
We have some really nice things planned for the venue, and we have the opportunity to take more time than we usually can to ensure that we’re properly set up to give you the best show that we can, with the best sound and the best visual presentation.
If you wanna check it out — come and stop by! Starting at 7:00, finished before 10:00 …

Puff and the Pillpoppers reached the 1st spot yesterday during the Emergenza Music Festival at bar l’Alizée, Montreal, while competing with 4 other bands.
Our beloved band got the most votes from the crowd that night with an amount of 93, which to this date also represents the 2nd best number for Montreal since the beginning of the Emergenza.
You can watch some clips (sorry for the poor quality) that -we hope- may lead you to come see them at the 2nd step of the Festival!
